Ampere (amp):The ampere, often shortened to “amp”, is the SI unit of electric current and is one of the seven SI base units. It is named after André-Marie Ampère, French mathematician and physicist, considered the father of electrodynamics. One ampere is defined as the current that flows through a conductor when there is a potential difference of one volt across it. This definition was first proposed by French physicist Jean-Charles-Athanase Peltier in 1834 and was later adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 1930.The ampere is a very important unit in electrical and electronic engineering as it is used to quantify the rate of flow of electric charge. It is also used to measure the strength of an electromagnetic field.
