distributed energy resources (DER)

Home / glossary / distributed energy resources (DER)

Distributed energy resources (DER):Distributed energy resources (DER) are small-scale technologies that generate electricity at or near the site where it will be used. Common examples of DER include rooftop solar PV systems, small-scale wind turbines, and combined heat and power (CHP) systems. DER can provide a number of benefits to the electric grid, including improved system reliability and resilience, reduced transmission and distribution losses, and increased integration of renewable energy sources.
