The zenith angle is the angle between the zenith (the point directly overhead) and a given point on the celestial sphere. The zenith angle is used in astronomy and navigation.The zenith angle can be measured using a sextant or octant. It can also be calculated from the altitude and azimuth of a celestial body. The zenith angle is equal to 90° minus the body’s altitude above the horizon.
