Background

Green Frog System were engaged by the Norther Territory Government (NTG) through The Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Logistics (DIPL) – Civil Services Unit in 2020.

GFS worked closely with DIPL for lighting solutions to improve delineation as a part of targeted road safety for this project. This Project was jointly funded by the Australian Government (AG) under the Northern Territory Stimulus Projects and the Northern Territory (NT) Government.

nt roadhouse locations

The Street Lighting at these roadhouses was designed to address road safety and fatigue management under the stimulus program. The need for street lighting was to improve visibility at accesses to the roadhouses and pedestrians’ crossings conflict points on this national highway link. Deficiencies in the delineation of conflict points for motorists and pedestrians on approaches to the roadhouse and at the frontage was also addressed for this project. The project was to ensure road safety at these connections between interstate and regional communities was maintained. The scope for this project was to adopt Safe Systems principles outlined in the ‘National Road Safety Strategy 2011-2020’, which aims to reduce the annual numbers of both deaths and serious injuries on Australian roads by at least 30 percent

Solution

As leaders in roadway solar lighting solutions Green Frog Systems was engaged to provide technical advice, design review and solution for the project.

GFS engineers investigated the types of intersections, projected traffic volumes, abutting property development, characteristics of the National Highway, identified hazards, including pedestrians crossing. They came up with a solution using the Aspire Roadway Series solar lights which feature vehicle impact protection slip base pole and foundation designs. Lighting engineers provided CAD drawings to meet the required Australian Standards AS/NZS 1158 Lighting for roads Category V.

Product Supplied: GFS-ASPIRE Roadway Series

Green Frog Systems were able to supply the Aspire Roadway Series Solar lights with slip base poles for the solar street lighting to each of the five identified roadhouses, complying to Ausroads Category V5 carriageway lighting. GFS provided the Lighting Solutions for safety and mobility the two major milestones of DIPL’s project strategy. GFS were also able to deliver our product with cost effective savings, positive environmental impact, and sustainability for Central Australia street lighting solutions for the Department of Infrastructure, Planning & Logistics.

Delivering a stylish, fully integrated, intelligent off-grid lighting solution. Designed specifically for high performance roadway lighting applications, slip base pole options with class leading technology providing all-night operation, continuous uptime with hot-swappable Lithium LiFePO4 batteries installed in-pole design. The result is an aesthetically pleasing design offering up to 8+ days autonomy.

The GFS-Aspire is the result of 5 years development and with the assistance of the Australian Federal Government providing $2M in joint funding. Today we have supplied the Aspire technology to numerous intersections, roadways, and car parking applications across the globe where ultimate reliability and safety are the major drivers.

The huge popularity of this series is due to it being virtually maintenance free, highly vandal resistant, and capable of delivering a very high quality light output, even through heavily overcast weather conditions.

This is achieved through the application of high-quality components and engineering design that delivers a high solar / battery capacity compared to the power load to optimise life of the unit.

Green Frog Systems are the leading national provider of ASNZS1158 compliant solar lighting solutions. We supply customised solar powered alternatives to clients seeking to illuminate remote highways, roadways and intersections safely and effectively. Our solutions are quick and easy to install and don’t require extensive cable trenching or connection to the mains power grid.
